Description of the project

The objective of the project »Natura 2000 in Slovenia – management models and information system« (LIFE04NAT/SI/000240) was to solve the most complex issues concerning the management of Natura 2000 areas. For this very purpose we shall survey, within the project's framework and together with our partners, the existing sectorial management plans and eventually propose inclusion of certain Natura 2000 contents, where possible, in the existing plans. If, however, an independent management plan should be made for a certain area owing to its complexity, we plan to prepare the so-called Guidelines for the preparation of management plans, which will serve as a manual to all makers of management plans and stipulate their uniform contents. Suitability and adequacy of the mentioned Guidelines are to be checked during the preparation of management plans for five (5) pilot areas (Boletina, Jelovica, Jovsi, Petelinjek, Snežnik ), which differ in their size, nature-conservancy contents and  complexity of the issues.

In the selected pilot areas, various activities will be carried out in order to solve concrete nature-conservancy problems (mowing, clearing of overgrown areas, building of bird observation posts …). Considering that sustainable development of Natura areas is closely associated with the acceptance of these contents by the local population or land owners, we will dedicate a special attention to these very people while the project is being implemented and attempt to acquaint them with these contents as much as possible through workshops and invitations to an actual participation in the field.

We shall concurrently publish the events associated with the implementation of the project on web sites designed for this LIFE project, as well as select, standardise and arrange, as effectively as possible, the existing databases for further use.
